The Ffos Las and Chepstow Racing Club horse Danboru put in another game effort at Newton Abbot last week when he finished third in a chase over 3m 2f under jockey Alan Johns. The gelding, trained by Tim Vaughan, was following up a second placed finish at Chepstow in April.
He’s proving to be a great fun horse for the members. For those readers keen on racing, being a member of a racing club is the perfect first step into racehorse ownership and the associated benefits. For membership details, please call Racing Club Manager Martin Higgs on 07831 752313.
Following the decision to move the Kaiser Chiefs Race Day at Ffos Las to June next year, we are looking forward to hosting Ladies Day on Friday 27th August, which is the second day of a two-day meeting.
It’s always been a hugely popular afternoon at Ffos Las with attendances in excess of 5000 people prior to Covid. However, due to current Welsh Government guidelines we can only accommodate 4000 people. This may change in the coming weeks of course. It’s unclear how the Welsh Government will respond to any changes implemented in England from July 19th.
Ladies Day is the perfect event for getting a group of friends together. There is a £500 Style Award for the Best Dressed Lady and there will be a DJ playing during the day. Tickets are £20 and have to be booked in advance. The restaurant is also open with all the information on our website.
If you can’t wait until late August, there is a Ladies Evening fixture at our sister course Chepstow this Friday 9th July with seven races from 6.15pm. Gates open at 4.15pm and tickets are £25.
We are delighted to have made two new appointments in recent weeks with Kirsty Murphy and Ellie Williams joining the business. They will be based across both Ffos Las and Chepstow Racecourses as we work our way out of the challenges created by Covid.
They will be focusing on a range of initiatives including hospitality, group bookings, sponsorship, racecourse branding, annual membership and events. They will also be key points of contact for racehorse owners. Both courses have tickets and restaurants now on sale for all 2021 fixtures.
Ellie, the daughter of Vale of Glamorgan trainer Evan Williams, will be balancing her racecourse role with that of an amateur jockey. On Sunday she finished fourth on Voodoo Doll at Market Rasen.
Ellie’s sister Isabel is a successful professional rider and Evan needs no introduction – he’s one of the leading jump trainers in the UK who last Christmas fulfilled a lifetime ambition to win the Coral Welsh Grand National with Secret Reprieve.
The next fixture at Ffos Las is Tuesday 20th July. Tickets are £15 and the first race is at 1.55pm. Children aged 17 and under go free.
