The 2022 running of the £50,000 DragonBet Welsh Champion Hurdle went to the Irish trained seven-year-old mare Effernock Fizz. She led all the way and held off the late challenge of former Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Milkwood from the Neil Mulholland yard.
Remarkably, the mare trained by Cian Collins was making her 70th racecourse appearance over jumps and on the flat. In spite of so many miles on the clock she posted a career best a week ago and confirmed her improvement with this run.
Successful jockey Sam Ewing was also aboard the Peter Fahey trained Peregrine Run for his victory in the Native River Chase at Chepstow on Sunday – what a weekend in Wales for the young rider!
